Medical Information

Whether you are coming on one of our treks which involves being in a jungle environment, or you are participating in one of our non-trekking tours, your health and safety is important to us.

All of our Australian guides have Advance First Aid Certificates. We carry activity specific first aid kits which include a defibrillator.

In addition, we have a medical evacuation plan so matter where you are in PNG we can get you to professional medical care when required.

Remember you are at risk of dehydration and tropical disease. It is imperative that you see a doctor at least 2 weeks prior to departure. Your doctor will administer any required innoculations and prescribe anti-malarial medication; some anti-malarial medications must be taken prior to your trek.

We recommend you bring the following in your personal first-aid kit:

  • Anti-malarial medication (as prescribed by your doctor)
  • Tropical strength insect repellent (Aeroguard, Bushmans or Rid, no aerosol cans please)
  • Pain-killers (Panadol or Aspirin)
  • One roll of strappling tape (Elastoplast)
  • Band-aids
  • Steri-wipes or cotton pads and disinfectant (Betadine)
  • Vaseline (rub on feet to prevent blisters)
  • Sun block/lip balm
  • Rehydration salts (Gastrolyte)
  • Anti-diarrhea medication (as prescribed by your doctor)
