Vale NX16665 Private Mal Williams

Sad to report the passing of one of the few remaining 2/2 Battalion Veterans, NX16665 Private Mal Williams.

The below info provided by Ronnie Moore of the 2/2 Battalion Association.

Today we lost one of the great 2/2nd Veterans NX 16665 Private Mal Williams, how to start to describe Mal and his service to his country is a task in itself, he served in all the 2/2nd campaigns, after the war Mal was a great supporter of the 2/2nd Association and was a regular at Anzac Day Marches and reunions, I always remember Mal for his love of his fellow men and the comradery he showed toward them.

A couple of years ago when we had our virtual Anzac Day service due to Covid, Mal pre recorded a message to all of us, in it he said that the men of the 2/2nd were the greatest men who would lay down their lives for you, at one Anzac Day in the early 2000's at the St James Hotel.

I distinctly remember a moment when he become quite emotional talking to one my other great hero's of the Battalion Bob Argent about their time together in the Battalion and I'll never forget the love and the undying respect they had for each other.

Mal , your service is done respected and will never be forgotten , Nulli Secundus Warrior.

Mal had spoken to Kokoda Historical on several occasions as he is one of the men that was listed on the captured Japanese Flag that we hold in our collection. Click here to read the story of the flag.
