Jim a veteran of the Kokoda campaign was great supporter of

the battalion association and promoting the meaning of Kokoda to younger
generations. Jim served during the war with A Company 39 Australian Infantry Battalion. He fought at Kokoda & Isurava and later at the Northern Beachheads.

When asked of his wartime experience he replied:

"In all the fighting that went on and the bombing and the strafing and
hand grenades, all the machine gun fire and the snipers, and nobody got
Jim."
