A Symbol of Service and Sacrifice: David Howell Presents Original Medal to NMAG

In a gesture that honours the enduring spirit of camaraderie and remembrance, David Howell, founder of Kokoda Historical, has donated an original Medal for Loyal Service to the National Museum and Art Gallery (NMAG) for their new World War II galleries. The medal, symbolising dedication and sacrifice, was presented to Dr. Andrew Connelly, the Military and Cultural Heritage Advisor to the PNG National Museum and Art Gallery. This significant contribution adds yet another layer of depth to the museum's collection, preserving the memory of those who served in Papua New Guinea during the war.

David Howell is committed to preserving and sharing the history of the Second World War in New Guinea, including the significant contribution of Papua New Guineans. As a passionate advocate for historical education, Howell has dedicated himself to ensuring that the stories and experiences of those who fought and served during World War II are not forgotten. By donating the original Medal for Loyal Service to the National Museum and Art Gallery (NMAG), it is hoped that future generations can gain a better understanding of the contributions made by the people of PNG during the Second World War.

Dr. Andrew Connelly, is preparing the new Second World War Galleries at the musuem and through his expertise and passion for preserving Papua New Guinea's wartime history the NMAG will become a major tourist and cultural destination. Dr. Connelly hopes that this unique aretfact will help to educate and inspire visitors, both local and international, by shedding light on the remarkable contributions made by Papua New Guineans during World War II.

The medal has the number 70 stamped into the back and was awarded to New Guinean soldier- Wahman from Aitape Village. His memory will be kept alive at the PNG National Museum and Art Gallery in their new exhibition galleries.
