GALLIPOLI TOUR 27 July – 9 August 2016

Day 1: Welcome to the start of your Gallipoli pilgrimage. We will fly this morning from our respective capital cities to Singapore. After a short stopover in Singapore we will meet other members of our group before boarding the second flight which will take us direct to Istanbul. Please check your E ticket for flight times.

Day 2: Today we arrive in Istanbul, after clearing customs and collecting our baggage we will transfer by private coach to Sirkeci Mansion Hotel. There are many facilities at this luxury hotel including a swimming pool, spa & sauna and Turkish steam room. This will help us relax and wind down after the international flight. The hotel also has a lounge and bar area along with a rooftop restaurant and there is plenty of in-house entertainment available. A good night’s sleep will prepare us for the journey ahead.

Day 3: Meet our local guide for a fully escorted tour of the ancient city of Istanbul. Sites will include the Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, the Cistern Basilica and of course the world famous Grand Bazaar & Spice Market. We will lunch at the Konyali Restaurant in the grounds of Topkapi Palace. In the afternoon there will be free time available to explore the city or to experience a hammam. In the evening we will have our official welcome dinner before preparing for tomorrow’sdeparture to the Gallipoli Peninsula.

Day 4: Breakfast will be served in the lower restaurant of the hotel. Shortly after we will check out and board our coach destined for the Gallipoli peninsula. The road journey will take approximately 5 hours. Along the way we will make two short stops and a longer stop for lunch. On arrival in Eceabat we will check in to the Grand Eceabet Hotel. Before dinner our local Gallipoli guide will take us down to the Gallipoli 'Mud Map' and Eceabat memorial as an introduction to the campaign. Dinner will be served upstairs in the main dining area with splendid views overlooking the Dardanelles.

Day 5: Drive to the narrows of Kilitbahir and discuss the Allied naval attack prior to the landings. This part of our trip will enable us to visit the 16C castle which was heavily damaged by the Allies. We will explore the many hidden rooms and the walls within, an opportunity that many visitors rarely get to see. Lunch will be served in the small cafe that overlooks the castle and fishing wharf below. We will also explore the Second World War era fortifications. From here we will visit the Namazgah Battery and the Rumeli Mecidiye Battery along with the Corporal Seyyit Monument before returning to the hotel for dinner and a good night's sleep.

Day 6: Up early and into our uniforms or day attire. We will be leaving the hotel at around 4am. After a short drive our boat will be waiting for us and and we will set sail for Anzac Cove. Arriving just before the sun rises we will drift silently on to Z Beach. When we hit the ground we will conduct an interactive briefing. Then we continue to advance towards Plugee's Plateau. Friendly Turks will meet us on top where breakfast on the battlefield will be served. After breakfast we will continue our march forward on the first ridge before we drop down Shrapnel Gully and up to Braunds Hill, Bridges Road, the 4th Battalion Cemetery and on to past tunnels and trenches and on to the Lone Pine Cemetery.

After viewing the Lone Pine Cemetery we will walk down to Leane's Trench for lunch. After lunch and time spent looking around the battlefield we will walk down Artillery Road to Shell Green Cemetery then Beach Cemetery and on to Fisherman's Hut for a swim. Afterwards we will return to the hotel by coach.

Day 7: Not such an early start this morning. Breakfast will be served in the main dining room before we board the coach. Today we will walk Second Ridge spending time at Steel's Post, Courtney's Post, Quins Post and waking on to the Turkish Memorial where we will have lunch. From here we visit the Nek & Chunik Bair. Those wishing to wear their uniforms are encouraged to do so. The coach will then take us back to hotel.

Day 8: After breakfast we are back on the coach to undertake the Helles Sector of our tour. Today we will visit Songanlidere Gully, the Turkish Hospital Cemetery and Achi Baba Hill, V Beach & W beach. We will have a swim at W Beach which will be followed by lunch. Continuing our battlefield tour we will visit the Lancashire Landing Cemetery and undertake a gully ravine walk to Nuri Yamut Memorial. In the afternoon we head to Krithia where we will visit the museum and walk the ground.

Once again, those wishing to wear their uniform please do so.

Day 9: Today we tour the Suvla Bay sector. Starting at Bigali Village then on to the Ataturk Hause, Buyuk Village museum and the Turkish canon battery we will then visit W Hill, Scimitar Hill, Green Hill, Chocolate Hill and Hill Ten. Lunch will be in situ followed by a visit to the Azmak Cemetery and onto Suvla Point and Lala Baba. We will spend the remainder of the afternoon at C Beach where we will have afternoon tea and a swim before returning to the hotel.

Day 10: Today we take the ferry to Canakkale where we will visit the Naval Museum, the archaeology museum before heading to the ancient city of Troy. Although not Gallipoli related, the ancient city of Troy is a must as we cast our imaginations even further in time and rediscover the mythology of the Trojan War as described in the Iliad. Lunch will be taken in the town and there is an opportunity for free time in the afternoon.

Day 11: Not such a rush this morning as we leisurely take in breakfast. We will drive up to the Simulation Centre where we will explore the museum and audio/video presentations. We will return back to the hotel for lunch before moving on to Lone Pine for a commemorative ceremony for the anniversary of Lone Pine. We encourage you to wear jacket and tie or similar attire. Medals either own or of your relatives are also to be worn.

Day 12: A very early start this morning as we arrive at the Nek for 430am. Today we will stand on the very spot that this now tragic event in our history took place. An unofficial service will take place. This will be a very special moment indeed. Afterwards we will return to the hotel to have breakfast and return to Istanbul. Lunch along with several small breaks will take place along the way. The movie Gallipoli will be screened on the coach. On arrival in Istanbul we will visit the Military Museum and then on to the Sirkeci Manision Hotel.

Day 13: This morning we will have breakfast at the hotel and check out and transfer to the Istanbul airport for our return flight to Singapore. Please check your E ticket for further details.

In the afternoon we will drive up to the Simulation Centre where we will explore the museum and audio/video presentations.

Saturday December 19

Day 11: Not such a rush this morning as we leisurely take in breakfast and prepare our suits/appropriate attire, for the official ceremony of Lone Pine. We will drive up to the Simulation Centre where we will explore the museum and audio/video presentations. We will return back to the hotel for lunch before moving on to Lone Pine for the official ceremony ran by the Australian Government. We encourage you to wear jacket and tie or similar attire. Medals either own or of your relatives are also to be worn.

Sunday December 20

Day 12: Depart the hotel at 4am to transfer by bus to ANZAC Cove where we will be evacuated by boat as occurred one hundred years to the day. We will then return to the hotel for breakfast before checking out and tansferring by bus to Istanbul. Lunch along with several small breaks will take place along the way. The movie Gallipoli will be screened on the coach. On arrival in Istanbul we will visit the Military Museum and then on to the Sirkeci Manision Hotel.

Monday December 21

Day 13: This morning we will have breakfast at the hotel and check out and transfer to the Istanbul airport for our return flight to Singapore. Please check your E ticket for further details. [The option of extending the trip and remaining in Europe for Christmas could also be requested. We will be happy to discuss options with you.]

Tuesday December 22

Day 14: We continue our journey from Singapore back to Australia. Please refer to your E tickets for further details.
